ive also noticed the odd puff of whiteish smoke coming from the back on hard accelaration, i know the turbo is fine cuz i had a new one fitted about 600 miles ago and also the collant level has not dropped at all so that would rule out head gasget problems , any ideas??????

The cold and the non motorway coupled with extortionate petrol prices sounds about right
I get about 430 on £55 and mines tdi and mostly A roads so you're not far off if at all

If the car runs fine and its just whitish on boot i'd say you may be over sensitive and its likely to just be the cold air temp outside slowing down the evaporation of exhaust gases from the exhaust, looks worse than it is, provided no other problems it should improve with the weather. If your worried get it plugged in and tested
