Hi all, I've noticed a tyre scrub from the n/s/f when on full lock left. No prob when on full lock to the right though. I've had it laser aligned, well checked they said there was nothing out to adjust. It does have one odd tyre on that side, a Dunlop asymetric, the rest are p zero's. (it's done 110k now, not expecting suspension issue though)

    Any Ideas???

    Cheers!

    What size are the tyres?
As far as I know, anything wider than 235 will rub without spacers.

Sounds like it may be the old Quattro rumble, do the tyres need changing?

As above , a quattro thing ,but gets worse,or more pronounced as tyres get lower.

Thanks guys, the tyres are 235, and not worn down yet, plenty left actually, but the n/s/f is s different brand and asy so that maybe causing the noise, seems a shame to replace decent tyre thats not worn out??

RMH1, I was getting a pucture repaired and they said they'd check it for free, was laser but not audi. It did show that the two axles are parallel, not what I had expected to see. Audi main dealers want £140 to check it, bit steep if its all ok.

Do yourself a favour for no cost.
Try moving the rims around the car, i.e,that n/s/f onto the rear if the feeling goes it may save the tyre and cure your rumbling

This is normal for a quattro and nothing to worry about. I have heard some people refer to it as 'Quattro push' All my Audi cars have done this, as do my my friends 'Torsen' quattros. A TT or A3 shouldn't do it, due to it having a totally different system.

Basically whats happening is the front tyres are losing grip due to the car being pushed from the straight rear wheels and pulled from fronts on full lock.

Generally the lower profile the tyre and bigger the rim the worse it is. Three weeks ago my car did it so bad even my girlfriend asked if there was something wrong with it!!

New set of tyres and the problem went away... it will come back when the tread gets down to about 3mm...

Dunlop tyres, in my experience, are utterly rubbish. When I bought my car it had a full set of brand new Dunlops on it! The quattro push was terrible and the car was unsafe when pushed to it's limits and beyond... I was so unimpressed with them I bought a whole new set of four Goodyears just to get the awful Dunlops off! It was like the car had become twice as nice to drive!

Thanks for that guys, it's such a shame, but if it's normal so be it, the quattro did make a difference in the snow so has already earnt its wages, plus its a great looking car. I'm looking at the fuel inj thread, not good news at all.
