    hi 2.5 tdi just put 20lts of shell vpower unleaded in tank realised this so filled to brim with deisel thought this would be ok after reading about this think i need to drain tank and purge system anybody know best way to do this or can i drive car and just keep topping up with deisel any help appreciated as i dont want to mess my car up cheers

    Petrol can damage the fuel pump although it will run fine usually. You may not notice any damage although it may cause premature failure! My 1.9 A6 is old and would most probably take the risk, topping it up after every 30 miles or so.

    The choice is yours, safest bet is to drain. If you're with the RAC/AA i'm not sure but I think they carry a pump for draining a tank. They're usually the only ones that are allowed to empty a tank whilst the car is on the forecourt because they have the kit to avoid spillage.

    thanks chris decided to drain tank with small pump on drill through filler cap only took 20 mins changed fuel filter and all is ok thanks for reply chris
