When the new style wheel was introduced late 2009 for the 2010 MY the option of paddles was removed. Not sure if you can get them for the 2010 wheel.

I would probably have had them at the time but now I've had the DSG for a few months I'm not bothered, "D" is OK for 99.9% of the time and the very odd time I need to override the system the manual +/- is fine.

Saying that I think the wheel will quickly find a new home on ebay.

    Cheers

Yes it sure is I use mine rarely but it always nice if you are pressing on to be able to override the dsg and take control in a fast bend. Or to overtake a slow driver for a quick get away.

I have always wondered if you go manual does it switch to D or to S as S always seems far more aggresive through the gears. Help anyone?

Basically without the paddles you slide it over from D to take control. With mine I can be in S or D and still take control with the paddles.

    Rappy.

I've got the choice of all 3 worlds. Golf has flappy paddles, fitted as standard. Passat has the MFSW as standard, no paddles. Wife's car has MFSW and paddles, which I paid extra for.

For me, the MFSW buttons are much more useful, especially with a phone kit connected. The paddles on the Golf get used once in a blue moon. They never get used on the wife's car, 'cos I never hoon around in her pride and joy.

I'd spend good money to get the MFSW functions on my GTI, but wouldn't waste time putting paddles on the Passat. But that's me, and somehow I never seem to find myself approaching a junction too fast.

For anyone who wants to to the job, there is a massive thread over at http://uk-mkivs.net/ complete with instructions, problems, pitfalls and coding. The Passat will obviously be similar, but not identical. The individual MFSW modules and paddles can be swapped from wheel to wheel, providing you have all the appropraite cables and modules.

I find the DSG so intuitive, i have only used +/- manual mode about 6 times in 2 years!

Each time, it was because i thought engine was getting close to labouring on a slight incline.

The beauty of an auto is not having to think about these things!
Kickdown is great on DSG, i often get a 6 to 4 on joining a motorway when the coast is clear, and it's reassuring and distraction free

Guess it depends on your engine/style of driving, but I rarely see the need for a manual change - if i i did i'd go back to a manual

I have the MFSW with paddle shift. It's a bit of a novelty at first but you find you rarely use it after a while unless you're bored or needing to scrub off some excess speed quickly. I did find I used it a lot during the snow to change up and down early to keep the revs down. Worked well for that. As stated before though the MFSW is a far better thing to have, especially when combined with the Premium Phone Kit
