recently bought an L reg 2.0 16v coupe.

been loving it so far but now having a wee issue with it tho.

was out in it last night and all was going great untill i needed soem fuel.

went to the shell, and stuck a ten spot of vpower in it, just to see me thru the rest of then night, didn't even get a mile up the road and it cut out on me, no power at all , but stamp the foot to the floor and it will eventually start revving, and away you can go.

nursed it down to the shed and had a poke about, and noticed a couple of bits n peices, but nothing drastic, most notably that no3 spark plug was VERY sooted up.

left it at the shed and borrowed another car to finish my deliveries.

went to it this morning, and it fired first turn of the key, and ran and drove perfect, so took a drive to the garage to get fags, got to the garage fine, no issues, left it running, came back out and it was still idling perfect, then as soon as i went to pull away, bang away it went again, axact same thing, cutting out, idling badly, stamp the foot down and it revs up and you can go.

gave it a good going over, cleaned all the spark plugs, checked for electrical connectors, vacuum hoses, blah blah usual suspects, and all checks out ok.

sooooo, the conclusion i can draw ATM is that it must be bad fuel, or doesn't like vpower, either way tomorrow i'll get a new set of sparkers, since the ones in it are indeed well past it, a new fuel filter and drain the tank, flush the lines and ply it with new fuel and see how i go from there.

I know this doesnt really help but it doesnt sound fuel related to me: I had an 2 litre 8v Audi 80 ('93 plate) which had exactly the same symptoms. It only did it 4 or 5 times over 6 months, it would let me travel 3 miles (almost exactly, it always did it in the same village!) then lose all power. It would idle alright then after 20 or so seconds it would give you power back when you revved hard.

This is the only trend I saw, I wondered if it was something to do with temperature but never actually found anything wrong with it.

Sorry I cant actually help you! Good luck

I think your last paragraph is the way to go. Can you get it scanned for faults before you open the wallet too wide?

There may be something in this, I've seen similar in a 16v passat (same injection system) problem was damaged/shorting lambda sensor wires.
The lambda sensor is not used by the ECU until the coolant temp reaches approx 80 deg C
The Lambda sensor operates on a voltage range of approx 0.2-0.8v but the other two wires coming from it are for the heating circuit which is something more than this. A short gives dreadful running with no power, but at wide open throttle, the lambda is ignored and fuelling is provided by tables built into the ECU programming.
suggest you test the lambda sensor
