Handsfree kit mounting

My car came with a Parrot kit fitted, the small LCD is behind the indicator stalk which is a bit awkward to use and see when driving.

The fixing of it is loose and I have some No More Nails strips I'm going to fix it back on with - but also considering relocating it.

Any thoughts where else it could go?

I have been looking at the same kit. The Parrots are excellent

. I think I will mount mine above the dial that controls the lights.

Yeah I had a Parrot CK3100 in my B5.5 and it worked really well... it had some issues with my phone at the time (iPhone 3G) and I eventually removed it. When I noticed the B6 had this one fitted I tried it with my iPhone 4 and it works perfectly.

Whoever fitted it has done a bit of a poor job, the mic is just resting between the sunvisor and roof lining so when you pull down the sunvisor the mic falls down ... it's not a big problem as I'll fit it at the top of the A pillar but I don't understand why they didn't use the clips that come with it exactly for that purpose!

The screen fitted behind the indicator is the largest flat/clean area of the dashboard for it I think - they stuck it there with cheap sticky pads and it's coming off so I thought about finding somewhere better - I'll try above the light switch but I think it may be a bit tall to sit in there.

That said, the kit connects fine with my phone and when a call is made or received the radio pauses the track and displays "Phone" - when I installed it in my B5.5 it didn't do that (Could be down to the radio I guess). If you are considering one I recommend it.

I have not measured a kit up for location but that seems to be the best place.

Or with a bit of work stick it over one the draws above the cd player that was another idea I had and when you want to use the kit press the draw open for ease of use then push it back in when finished.

Maybe you could try this and let me know

. I was considering the draw on the left hand side.

I'll clear the snow off the car this afternoon and have a look at mounting it - I'll take some photos of the unit in different places so you can see what it's like.

The previous CK3100 kit was a little more shallow - that would have been ideal above the light switch.

A photo of my CK3100 kit fitted to my Seat Ibiza... It later had flickering issues with the display I think was caused by the wire being pinched as I fed it through the fascia.

No photos of it on my B5.5 but this is where it was located.

Great. That would be very usefull. I can imagine the wires being pinched would cause some problems.

I was considering drill through the draw and feeding the wire straight down to the radio. Not spent to much time on removing the radio and having a look just yet.

Sounds like that could work, not sure how clean the metal trim on the drawer would be to drill through?

One thing to bear in mind is the control box for the kit - this is where the screen connects to... my previous CK3200 kit was like this (And the 3200 is likely the same).

Blue control box, about the size of a laptop charger.
A display screen with roughly 2M cable.
Mic with roughly 4M cable.
Wiring harness with ISO leads (X2) .. Power & Audio.

Basically the mic and screen you mount anywhere and connect to the blue control box wherever it is located, the wiring harness takes its feed from your headunit cables and connects to the control box to supply power to the unit.

Here are a couple of photos...

The CK3200 kit, it seems the control box is smaller. Doesen't show the wiring harness.

I would be taking the radio out and seeing how much room there is.

I would imagine the drawers are plastic so no problem drilling them.

Brydo I had a mki9200 in my Passat B6 and I agree it is hard to locate. I bought a Brodit clip that went over the centre air vent.

Right, the job is done! Took me about 30 minutes all in and about 25 of that was removing the previous glue and sticky pads from the screen and dashboard!

So I pulled it off as it was about to fall off, decided to move it about 1" left as it's easier to see without being hidden behind the indicator stalk that way from the drivers seat - it is a little on the metal trim but not much and this way it keeps the wire pretty well hidden.

Removed it and all the glue, resecured it completely with new pads and fitted - it's on there rock solid and doesen't move when you press it at one side.

As for the mic - I found a clip from my old kit and fitted that to the headlining and secured the mic up there... big big improvement. I've linked up some photos below and also took one above the light switch... the kit I have is too high to fit in the space securely.
