    Hi there,

im hoping someone can help me here...

    I have a Polo 2001 x hatch 1.4 SE

The passenger side electric window has been on and off for a good few months now. Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. The last time they didnt work for a few months and now they work again

Im a bit scared to use the passenger window now in case it doesnt go back up again.

When it doesn't work and you operate it from the drivers side control you can here it clicking on the door but the wondow just doesn't move

    Any help at all appreciated

Could be a broken wire in the wiring loom between the vehicle body and the door. It's quite common for the wires to break because of the door opening and closing all the time. If you remove the rubber tubing from the door and push it back towards the vehicle body you should be able to see if any of the wires are cut. Make sure you refit the rubber tube properly or water will get into the wiring.

    Regards - Jim.

That's a bit like saying that your car wont start and someone suggesting that it needs a new engine without doing any diagnosis on the cause of the problem. It could be the motor that's faulty, but we can't be sure until we check the more likely (and cheaper) possibilities first.

    Jim.
I get you 100%. The guy who suggested that is a VW mechanic so no doubt they are used to doing the "easy option" of replacing parts rather than investigating properly!

Cheers for your help, much appreciated

A friend of mine has a 2001 polo 3 door and had asked me to look at a window prob just like yours it was only on the drivers side. turned out to be the switch still have not changed it yet just swapped it with passenger side, you could try this to see if it changes to opposite window then you would know if it is the switch or not!!!!!!!!!
