Fans and Climate Control

Apologies if this is elsewhere. I have an A6 Avant 2.7T Q (2001) everything is fine, but when the climate control is on, the auxiliary fan operates all the time. As soon as I push the Econ switch they turn off.

This really isn't a problem unless you are outside the car - it makes a real din - there seem to be a huge number of fans under the bonnet!

Is this normal - the car has always done it and the dealer assured me that it was normal - is this true?

They are noticeable but they shouldn't be overly loud. Check the bearing isn't dry.
