I take the new shape is called B7?

Was in dealer today had a sit in estate in showroom. Blagged quick shot of saloon demonstrator only on road today.

Nice car. Looks better in metal than picks.

1.6TDI BM Tech S. Smooth car. Still very tight but felt ok. Nice linear power delivery.

    Me likely.

With a few extras one in showroom lists at £23k though. Same car with options of sensors, pana roof, metallic and thing few other bits n bobs.

More likely to be B6.5, as just an update of B6 (viz B5 and B5.5)
Nothing to see here, move along..

I know where I'll be tomorrow! Having a look round the 6 VW dealers within 20miles of me. If each one has a different model I'll maybe get a go in the whole range!!

Edit; also I recon B6.5 as it's just a facelift. Same car, slightly different interior, different range of engine, bigger price tag.

Drove one just before Christmas, 2.0TDi SE.

Drove exactly the same as min which is as you'd expect as the mechanical bits are the same.
Interior the same bar the chrome vent surrounds, centre clock and the lack of leather.
Quite like the new exterior but to spec an SE upto the old highline spec makes it very expensive and the 0% finance deals have finished.

    Cheers

You're both right it is a 6.5, but iirc it is launching as a 7, VW market con really, but hey ho, we can look forward to all the 1.6 fault's, my mate has this engine in an Octavia, reckons it's a slouch.

Traffic didn't give me a chance to stretch it really but it may lack a bit of torque as you say.

I think it's less torquey than the old 1.9

The 2.0TDi 140 CR doesn't feel as torquey as the 1.9PD130 and yes the 105 1.6CRTDi doesn't feel as torquey as the 105 1.9Tdi. The difference is the CR units love to rev especially the 1.6 unit.
My uncle has a 1.6 CR TDi Golf with the 7 speed DSG box. It's refined, free revving and the 7 speed dsg whips through the gears, it's a great combination.
If they do that combo in a Fabia I'll buy one straight away.

But the Passat is heavier, the blue motion has to put up with a 6 speed manual with extra tall gearing and an economy enhanced engine map.
Haven't driven one but I'd expect it to be pretty dull.

    Cheers

Just saw the advert on TV to realise that there is a new passat out there. Well just from what i saw, dont like it. Looks more like B5 (front) and also the fog lights are ugly. Kind of hybrid b/w BMW 3 coupe (rear) and B5 (front). VW taking a step backwards.

what are the petrol engines like I wonder? Heard that the new 1.4 TSI's can be frugal yet quite fun to drive... Think the MPG isn't too bad either. Would love to try one out, I do like the look of them - I can see they're taking some styling from the audi for the rear light clusters. Front is a bit boring but the inside gets a well needed refresh, yet still doesnt look as solid as an audi or bmw.

Still prefer the overall shape of the B6 - a few curves here and there and some neat looking front headlights. Too many designs now are going for sharp lines and angles - see the new ford focus for instance. And although the interior is refreshed, it still looks like they're using the similar materials, so unless you take 'grease action' you'll still get a creaky instrument cluster bezel!
