Hi, I think one of my front wheel bearings is on its way out. I've got a "wah, wah, wah, wah...." noise that's consistent with road wheel speed.
I had a look in the Haynes manual and see that it's quite involved to change them and would require me buying some more tools. Also I live in a flat so have to do work at the side of the road with no access to a workshop/garage so not that keen.
How much do you reckon it'd cost to have them done at an independent garage? just looking for a rough estimate so I have a benchmark before I go asking for quotes today.

    Thanks, Leigh

    More details here: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel47.shtml

Allow £150 per side + VAT would be reasonable (this is not from a main dealer!)

Thanks Spartacus 68, just got a quote back from Firstdrive, near Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire for £150.76 including VAT @ 20% so I'll be booking the car in there at the end of the month.

    Cheers, Leigh

A worn wheel bearing is more inclined to give a constant drone,
    and gets louder with speed.

A "wah, wah, wah, wah....", in time with the revolutions of the wheel,
    could be brake related.

    Regards
    Jim
