Hi, Have had what seems like a "popular" prob with my 2002 Golf 1.6Se. Front passenger door often doesn't open remote or manually.

However, now the remote key fob seems to need many clicks to get it to respond. Replaced battery, no difference!

Also have loads of other things like back light on heater controls seems to go off when changing something on heating.

Am starting to think there is some type of underlying electrical problem.

Anyone have same problems or any ideas?

I am no mechanic but can probably replace parts if I know what's wrong.

    Many thanks

    Andrew

Discovered that when I put the key fob right near the car door lock, the remote seems to function as normal.

Does this sound like a problem with the key fob itself?

    Thanks

    Hi
Get the car running, check and see if the door open light comes on or stays off when you go around the car systematicly opening and closing the doors and boot lid. . The reason for this is to determine if any of the door locks are duff. Let me know how you get on.

Did all that, light on dashboard showed doors as open when I went round and opened doors 1 by 1.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

This makes me think that the passenger door lock is faulty. To be totally sure, get a fault code read done to see if it shows up any stored faults.
The locks are quite expensive, coming in at around £120.
I recently had similar problems with my car, when the drivers door was closed, it was telling the car that it was open. Replaced the lock and everything was fine.
    Good luck !

    Hi
You can get a fault code read done by any independant mechanic, in otherwords, check your local garage'mechanics and ask to they do diagnostics. Basically a computer that plugs into the car and the car will tell you if there are any active or stored codes/problems.
    Good luck !
