DTC Help Please

Hi gang,

Bought this

VAG Scanner Engine ABS Airbag Diagnostic Scan Tool VW Seat Skoda Audi COM Reset | eBay

for about £39!!!!!! and read codes, they are as follows:

P0102 Mass Air Flow Sensor Too Low.

P0134 and P1116 Lambda B1 S1 No Activity.

After initial read I cleared the codes then went for a drive and then re read and they re appeared.

Do I simply need to replace the said units?

No dont do that yet until you are certain it is the cause of the dtc. Try Ross Tech or google the codes for clues on "possible " issues. I say possible because the dtc may be the result of another issue causing the said sensor to show as faulty.

Thanks for that Alan understand what you are saying.

My gadget also shows nearside rear ABS sensor is faulty and the ABS always kicks in when you are pulling up to a standstill, so i am guessing that's a safe bet that the sensor is fauty. I have had a look at the wiring and all seams good.

Could be a couple of things, corroded plug or wiring, sensor faulty, or, air gap between sensor and rotor to big. If yours is adjustable, tap sensor up to rotor. If its a fixed type (probable) the air gap is only a check if your wheels bearings are loose!

Well I checked all wiring and connectors, these are all good.

I removed the sensor(simple push in, pull out) and it was very very dirty so I cleaned it but to no avail. However, I did notice that if I pushed it in too far there was resistance now and then (like clicking) when I rotated the disc. The feeling I got was that the sensor ring has broken, so tomorrow I am going to remove the disc and see if I can spot any damage.

I will report my findings.

The clicking could be just the sensor rubbing on the ring. Can you see the condition of the ring?

You appear to be correct that it is indeed rubbing on the ring and can only see very small bits of the ring.
I have to say that I have a grumbling wheel bearing on the same wheel, so I popped down to my local garage for a quote to do bearing and they quoted £130.00. Then once the bearing is done they can look at the abs for me and charge me accordingly of course.

Not too sure if a bearing would have an effect on the abs.

This symptom is often caused by a split tone wheel.
