    Hi all,
I’ve has this problem for the last week or so, that I can only lock/unlock my car with the remote if I am standing right next to the drivers door. Prior to this the car would lock/unlock when I was about 5 meters or more away. Initially I put it down to the cold snowy weather thinking that might have effected the range, however now it has warmed up the problem still remains. I changed the battery in the remote control with a brand new one but it is just the same. It’s an ‘05 Golf and doesn’t seem to have any other problems at the moment. Just looking for some suggestions on how to fix this problem and get the range/distance back on my remote key?
    Happy New Year
    Cheers Kylie

    Hi Guys,
I just checked with my spare key and that one seems to be working fine, so does that mean I have dropped the main key too many times and its unable to be repaired?

Probably means you are about ready for new batteries in the remote. Do a search on this forum for instructions. It's important to do the actual swap quickly, otherwise you have to re-pair the key with the car. Instructions for that are in your manual.

I'm pretty sure it uses CR2032 batteries, which are about a quid each from Screwfix (the Passat certainly does). Open up the fob, take a look, buy replacement(s), do the job. No need to pay silly dealer prices.

Yeah that's what I originally thought, so I've already tried that but putting a new battery in didn't change the distance/range. So any other ideas will be greatfully received, Thanks
