Nothing left in the boot / under a seat ?? Last time my car smelt foul it turns out that some dodgy smelly cheese had fallen out of the carrier bag on the way home from Sainsburys the night before !!

Hey Chris, you've talked about the aircon and seems like you've ruled that out?
I'd just like to ask though, do you use your A/C all the time or not?
Even if its been cleaned / recharged etc if you've had it switched off for any length of time thats when the bacteria can build up.....smells bloody awful

I have mine switched on and running all the time, helps with clearing misty windows in the winter too......just a thought and thought I'd ask

It's on all the time Jim, I'm gonna try keeping the windows open slightly while driving to see if that improves anything. If not, I'll ring Audi and get the car checked out

    Thanks

Have you checked the battery to make sure it's topped up. I have smelt very stinky cars (eggy) because the battery fluid was low.

Might be worth sticking your nose into the vents to see if the smell is stronger there? Then try the carpets, then the seats. If you can pinpoint a source it should help you to find a cure...

Update - car was in with Audi this afternoon about the smell. Turned out it was the air-conditioning. Seems that bacteria were growing inside some of the tubes/pipes and thus creating the awful smell.

Never got it fixed today as I didn't have time to wait but it's booked in later next week and hopefully will have it sorted

Once again, thanks for all your input

    Chris

Thats what I thought Chris.....Get yourself one of those aircon bombs by Comma rom Halfords or the like. They're only around £12 and let it off in the car with the A/C on full blast they usually work a treat and leave the car with a lemony citrus aroma
Used it myself and can vouch or it Chris.......As stated my A/C is ALWAYS on too so never really have this problem. I just use it as a nice / convenient way to deodorise the car sometimes!

I've also read where some people spray dettol type disinfectant into the A/C intake area?...This flows through the whole car disinfecting as it goes and is a lot cheaper - never done it myself but seems sound enough in theory!

Good that you know where you are and its nothing serious

I did say it could well be bacteria giving off the smell, if it was me I'd use forte air com treatment, works really well and is easy to use, if you want a can send me a pm mate and I can send one up bud

Thanks Jim and Phil. Fortunately, because Audi cleaned my AirCon a short while back, they are going to clean it again for FREE woo!.

They said theyre doing this again is because they cant understand why the system was making bacteria after such a short period of time.

Thanks for all your help and have a good New Years Eve

Wont be doing much myself so i'll be lurking on this most of the night!

    Chris
