My daughter has an 03 Polo, blown dipped headlight bulb,is it easy to change or is it a dismantling job.

She's coming over tomorrow with the new bulb, just need to know how because this is in her dinner break from work.

Awkward, but perfectly doable at night in a wet petrol station! It's awkward to get to the bulb, and then get it out, unless you know what you're doing. You need to twist the holder to release it, it then comes out quite easily. The sidelight bulbs are the worst, took me ages to replace one before it's MOT!

The level of difficulty in changing 2003 Polo front bulbs can vary from model to model - the 1.9TDI being the worst. Small(ish) hands are a prerequisite.
I agree that the side/pilot bulbs are difficult to replace. As the owner of a pair of "ham shanks" I ended up having to make a bulb holder tool to fit a pilot bulb as my hands / fingers were too large to hold the bulb and then insert it into the deeply recessed holder.

    Hi.

Just got back from Guilders VW, my 2003 polo 1.9TDI Sport had a front drives side, side light out.

Two hours later given a massive bill of 48p. Apparently there is a new policy with VW

I was told that owners no longer have to pay for labour for light bulbs and wiper blades, worth asking at your local VW dealer to see if their is the same.

They've been doing that for a while now. I had the same when it failed it's MOT due to a dodgy indicator bulb that had de-yellowed due to age.

    Edit: that was in May

    Thanks again,fitted and working.

I now realise how difficult it would be without knowing what to do.

    Took about 10 minutes.
