Bora V5 tappets

I am a small car repair bussiness that has a new customer that has a 02 Plate 2500cc V5 Bora with an engine noise can anyone help?

The car was MOT'D at a VW main agent who noticed a noise in engine, advised customer to have it fixed and said was cam chain. After replacing front and back chains and a bill for £1000+ with the noise still there the customer lost all faith in VW and brought to me.
I have identified the noise as tappet (hydraulic follower) could any one advise on how long this will take and if chain tensioners fall out when drive gears for cams removed etc. Want rough idea of job before taking it on as couldn't source a manual to assist.
Any help with advise on times and complexity of job or where to find info/manual would be gratefully received.
