I have a 2007 3.0tdi A6 avant and wish to upgrade the headlights (I don't have the LEDs). I'm, thinking change of bulb but open to advice. Anyone done this? What did you go for?

Hey there, I also have a 2007 A6 and have upgraded my headlights quite some time ago....please see links...
You may find some of them useful for food for thought. i think the HID lits are probably better as a retrofit but more expensive and more involved....this was a simple case of changing bulbs and worked for me with NO problems over this time.

I take it you're talking about the newer, facelift headlights with the LED running lights?

If you are then you Will have to replace the whole Lighting unit which costs £££ and involves alot of time and effort if fitting yourself.

It's even more involved than that, sadly. You will most likely need a new Comfort module to control the DRLs, plus you need to use the wire that currently connects to each indicator side repeater in the wings as a feed for the DRLs, which means you then need the facelift door mirrors with integrated side repeaters, and new door control modules to suit, plus you also need to fill the holes in the wings where the old side repeaters were...

Not a job to be undertaken lightly, in other words.

    Regards,

    MF.

No I'm not I did look into it and your right its too involved for me, hence the bulbs. I think that I'll go Jim's route as we know it works. Thanks for the advice guys.

Jim - have you ever had any issues with the 80w bulbs ?? I remember fitting 80/100w bulbs many moons ago to a mk2 Golf, all was well until it burnt out the ignition switch whilst I was near Inverness with a 600 miles drive home to face !!

    Also any mot issues ??

    Hi Dandam,
I've never had any issues with these bulbs either burning out ( still on the original bulbs I put in, must be nearly 2 years now....please feel free to check post date for more accurate times ) or with any issues related to the wiring harness etc.......just a useful bright white light
Only had 1 MOT so far and that done at Audi and passed first time no probs

As I said....I do believe that the HID kits that can be installed with their own little ballast and directly into your wiring are excellent value for money and probably better in the long run, but more expensive and obviously much more involved.

I chose to go down the route of these replacement bulbs as it was cheaper and easier ( more to try them really - as I was probably going down the route of HID kits at some point )....and was so happy I never changed them!

Anyhow, good luck with whichever route you go down and look forward to the post c/w pics of course AND a full write up

Hmmm, I might give them a try. I changed the lights to a HID kit on Mrs dandam's A3 (which were as much use as a couple of candles on a windy night) and love the colour of them.

Time to spend some Christmas money I think.

If you do Dandam, please make sure you use the Sportzblue by Ring....there's a link to them somewhere in my thread I think....I'm sure they won't let you down

Don't forget whichever way you go, we'll be expecting a write up

do you know whether all those requirements you list also applies if one already has the adaptive xenons with DRL (albeit not LED version). I had been hoping that perhaps a simple purchase of 2 new xenon headlights with DRLs (albeit expensive) could then be installed in plug & play fashion.
