    Merry Xmas Everyone...

I hope everyone is enjoying and had a good one. Unfortunately, all my festive plans are on hold. I just love my passat too much and cant see/hear it in pain anymore.

In prep for this holiday, I got an appointment for a 50k service for my 06 Saloon 1.9 Tdi service (52500 miles) on Monday 20-12-2010. Thought to get service done and ensure CAR FIT and ready for holidays too! God wish I knew it was a mistake to take the car into dealer 1000miles before it was actually due...

Did service on Monday... all good... Came home and left the car until yesterday night (Friday 24/12)... Took my wife for dinner to Cardiff from Bristol ãpprox. 40miles away... We returning back, ignition on, check engine oil level !!!!!

I only probably done about 80 miles total since car serviced... ON MONDAY...

Check the oil level as car asked me (Sorry for being too kind to my car!)... Oil level is not even at the minimum marker [square of dots!!!] on the dip stick... I clean 3 times with tissue and gave same results

I never left it below 4 dots before... From dealer they left nothing inside!

I could not believe my eyes... my thoughts of me driving 70-80 MPH with next to no oil.... check the bottom of the car... no apparent leaks...

At 2130hrs, stranded in a car park in Wales in -8 degrees is not good

Being too cautious, I had some 5w40 engine oil in the back (it actually uses 5w-30) and put the whole 750ml left. Engine oil light OFF. Phew...\

Question to you guys [apology for telling you the story! a long one, indeed my first post!] ... What do I do now? Go back to the dealer... Then they will say F*** off oil levels are my problems when I paid 120£ for them to ensure the car is in tip-top shape???

Next on my way back... adding salt to injury, brakes are squeaking like hell... checked it this morning.... front right disc on the inside got lines on it... meaning new discs ... right?

so whats is the point of a dealer to check on their own brand car and not advising on RED items to be done NOW!!!

i dont believe that in 100miles a full brake pad is GONE.... Believe it... I dont use my brakes much... I use more engine braking than brakes... Naughty me...

Can someone advise? Im really under weather now since I was suppose to be with my family but stuck since my car is not well... Dealer not opened until Wednesday now... So Im stuck.... Anyone? Any advice will be much appreciated...

    Merry Xmas...

Minimum of another oil service and hopefully a bit of goodwill towards the brakes.

However you will probably find that checking the brakes is not part of the oil service and if there were no warning lights on or noises indicating a fault then don't hold your breath expecting them to anything about it.

The brake pad wear sensor is only on the left hand side on the front of the car so it would not have shown as a fault, could something be trapped between the disc and pad? very common for grit at this time of year.

    Good luck with the dealer

    Hi All,

Thanks for all your replies... Keep it coming

Yes... I will ask them to re-do this service, however, before doing so, I want to do a check with an engineer in the workshop.

So that both parties are on the same page.

I will complain about the brakes since I did SPECIFICLY asked them before making the payment: 'The last time you put my brakes pad on advisory, is it still ok?' Obviously with big smiley faces the answer was 'different technicians assess differently!'

Next is I checked the report from the service, their visual check which includes the brakes SAID 'ALL IS GOOD'... They even managed to make the new dunlop tyres on the rear right (changed in APR-2010 - 3 tyres) to the one with advisory! While its actually the rear left which is @ 3mm (the one I didnot change in April).

I am preparing all my receipts and paper work to discuss matters on Wednesday when they open.

Above all and with good will, I hope to get as a minimum -

    1. Oil Service including the oil filter
    2. Full Vehicle diagnostics (to check from the car systems, anything damaged from their ****-up!)
    3. Brakes changed at their cost (I pay for the parts!)

I have checked the discs and they should be ok to run through another set of pads, as previously advised, but now with their ****-up in their checks - I will have to change both discs and pads...

Lets see on Wednesday now... I am seriously hoping they sort it out since I really want to have a happy ending of 2010... So far I am stuck at home...

BTW, I did check the pads on the inside thoroughly this morning, Dont think so something is stuck... From my untrained car mechanic eyes + limited view, its very apparent with the car on the ground that the pads are gone.... ... Wished they at least glanced at the brakes last Monday!

    Z.

If they do another oil service you'll get it back again with no oil!

Seriously though, I would have thought that the 'oil level' warning would come up somewhere if they do a fault code scan for the car's history, which would prove your side of the story. If that's possible they could also clear it and call your bluff saying 'there's oil in it, what's the problem?' Depends on how honest they are. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of VCDS can throw some light on that before Wednesday.

Did the pad wear light actually come on? How bad are the 'lines' on the disc. Can you check the pad thickness yourself?

    Thanks for your reply....

Well to ensure this bluffing business doesnot happen. I will be beside my car at all times... (try to be!) get them to check in my presence...

I keep my engineering understanding and see how much they bluff and THEN kill them when they do talk BULLYS**T!!!!!

Next... Pads...No the light did not come on but previous reply from 'Amsel' mentioned that the sensor is only on the left ... The disc abbrasion happened on the inner side of the right!

The lines are bad at least 2-4 cm circular lines... I should get a picture of that!

I measured differently, its only (max. 1mm) deep from the outside... I still think that these discs were still usable since the advisory for the pads came from a visual check the same vw garage did 2 months ago... Then they said the pads anyway still got 6000miles at least to go... I only covered 1.5K since then and as mentioned before didnt use brakes much or push car hard to extensively use brakes....

Hangon before you go in red ragging it.

1 - The oil light shouldn't be on, but these cars do burn oil, there is also the chance that you have a leak somewhere, possibly the sump plug, possibly a turbo pipe, or even worse your turbo is about to let go, does it rattle or make noises, is there smoke all the time coming from the exhaust?

2 - Brakes, these can squeal at any time, as we are in an extreme weather pattern right now I suspect you have a caliper full of salt, a blast from a jet washer will sort that out, as for lines they can also be grit sourced, and no VW garage is going to miss the chance to sell you £200 of new pads fitted, so i'd say the mechanic saw plenty of pad when he inspected them, what you need to look for when it comes to disc's is the lip that forms on the outer edge, if it gets too deep it will squeal, and it will also be a fail or an advisory item, personally I think you just need to blast them off to get rid of rock salt and grit that has accumalated.

Last thing you need to do is go in shouting, ppl don't respond to it very well, treat them with respect and you'll get a whole lot better service from them, the iol does look worrying I admit, but I had the samething when I bought mine, I did 240 miles home in it, and the light came on as I went to go back out in it, I'm wondering if they suck the oil out in the dealers now instead of dropping it, and it's taking every last drop out and when the mechanic refills it you aren't getting a full lot, but yours does sound like it's a burner as well, best way to confirm this is to go out in it, and wait until a police car is behind you, you should then floor it and make your escape down a side road while the cloud clear and the officers regain their breath

    Hi DSG4ME,

Agree with you, as I am putting more thoughts into it... I am and willing to work with them instead of being against them...

The least I want from them is that they make the matter / car condition worst...

    Now your questions:-

1- I previously done 800 miles journey in the car over 3-4 days without checking the oil as the miles piled on! I did before I left though and top it up accordingly... I have to say I expected the oil to be GONE (assuming the rule of 100miles/ltr oil)... But it remarkably went down only by one line of dots... The last dealer check where the pads were put as advisory, the engineer himself personally said to me that this car for this age and miles is very clean and well looked after.

I checked that too after I top-up the oil... No smoke at all except on the cold start where white vapour was coming out... Once at temperature, I floored it to 4000rpm... No smoke to report...

2- Agree with you on the brakes... I can do the jet blast... And see what happens... Thing I have to say: 'the lip that forms on the outer edge' as per previous reply its only about 1mm max! So i dont expect the disc needed changing... Now i think it will

I have been in previous problems with the same dealer before ... Glad I stick to them since I bought it from them and they are responsible themselves from Day one...

Previously once I spoken with them and put the facts to them (also i think depends how you put that to them!) they responded well....!!! Hope its the same this time I say positive...

Good idea ... But I wont put my car or me at risk... I hate loving cars so much now... That makes me so picky on very detail!

Anyways, my xmas is ruined... I be at the dealer on Wednesday 0800am sharp! Hopefully they can sort it out so I can enjoy last few days holiday in London driving in my own ride...

Otherwise I ask them for a courtesy car ... cannot let this mishap ruining my time-off work!

Thanks for your reply and advice! Apreciate it...

    Merry belated Xmas!

If you love your car you will take it to a different dealer and have her serviced properly.
If you take it back to your original garage they will just fob you off. Who knows what they do behind your back?
Don't worry too much, it's only a car.
    Have a good new year.
