Car starts but won't run

I'm new to this forum, so I hope I've posted in the right place. My Audi has previously had no problems. It was completely frozen and when I tried to start it, it would hardly turn. After a bit of cranking, it fired and then stopped. "Safe" appeared in the Radio display, so I guess the voltage from the battery dropped for a bit. I charged the battery and now it cranks OK, but it only runs for about a second and then cuts out. The instrument lights don't work and I can't get anything from the information display, nor the air con display. All fuses are ok. The ESP warning sign stays on and the first time I tried to start the car the display showed a message about ESP.
I guess it's something to do with the immobiliser, but I don't know how to reset it. I tried the spare key, but same problem. Both keys still work the door locks remotely.
Does anybody know how to fix this. I need to use my car urgently. Please help.

Short-term, disconnect the battery negative terminal for 5 mins,
if that don't work you will need a diagnostic scan done.

The ESP light will go off after the car has been driven for a bit it always comes on and stays on if you disconect the battery.

charge your battery and then try it. Hope its all ok.

Dan. Thanks for the info about the ESP light. The battery is charged. It'll crank the engine Ok and the motor fires up straight away, but then something shuts it down after about a second. I've read on other forums that this is something to do with the immobiliser, but nobody seems to be able to post an answer as to how to fix it.

you will need to get it code scanned to see what shows up.

Dan, I can't take it anywhere becuse it won't run and I don't believe anybody will come out to have a look at it while it's deep in snow. Do you need special equipment to code scan it, or is it something I can do myself. Please anybody help. I need my car for Xmas shopping and visiting.

if its the immobiliser then the yellow key symbol will be illuminated after the engine stops. If this is so you will need someone with vag-com to have a look

Best bet would be to call a specialist who will come to you though. There are plenty around, My mate used a local Bosche engineer.

Just tried it again. The instrument lights are now working again and I also had the main information display. When I turned the key to start it, it fired up, but then cut out again after a second and the display disappeared again and won't come back. The instrument lights are still working. Do you think I have a frozen connector somewhere. If so, where?
