Hi guyz, got another problem with the A8 tdi, went to open the boot lastnite, normally it opens and closes automatically with the touch of a button, but this time it struggled to close and just went back up by it self. Its still not closing properly, so ive just manually pushed it down but its not locked into position. Has anyone had a similiar problem?

you need to adjust the height of the pin that the boot latch locks onto. there are two square plastic covers which pop out and allow access to the two bolts holding the pin, undo them a tad and move the pin up a little...its trial and error to get it just right
make sure the bolts are tight when you are done

Just been trying to lift the pin up a little like u said but it didnt work. It seems like the boot isnt locking into place. The boot goes up and down perfectly. Probably have to go into dealers in morning.

Hi all, there are three automated mechanisms for the auto boot. Firstly, there is the motor (which has a clutch). Secondly, there is the latch, and thirdly there is the big pin that hooks onto the latch... this pin actually moves up and down and keeps the boot flush.

When I first bought the car, the boot would not close, so I loosened the three (i made a mistake before and said two) bolts, and shifted the mechanism up. This solved that problem. Here is a pic

The next problem I had was that the boot was not sitting flush, and this I realised was because the big pin was not pulling the boot lid down... and this was because of a missing spring as shown below.

Now I have a new problem, which started last week, which is that the boot doesnt open when you press the button. The pin pushes the boot up, but the motor cannot open the boot. This could be one of three things. incorrect alignment (not likely), worn strut (likely), worn clutch (likely).

nb the pics were taken upside down!

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers for the write up.

My boot opens and closes properly but just doesn't sit flush on the right hand side.

    I'll check this spring.

Hi all, this morning my boot started working again, it locked into place, but the right side not sitting flush like it should. I think these boots dont like the cold weather and the sensors pack in.
