I dont know about this car but others dont normally use a relay as such they have a reostst which changes the speed of the motor. These get really hot and are normally under the front grill to keep cool. They do burn out and the different speeds on the heater may stop working. If all the speeds do not work check the fuse or pull the heater motor out and check it is free as they can sieze up. Sometimes a bit of wd40 sorts them out.

Buy the replacement brushes from ebay (£10).
Changed mine on boxing day, took less than 1 hr.

Hi I have a 2004 A4 and yesterday my heater blower just suddenly stopped working the controls work and I can hear the vents changing but no aire blowing out. Any Ideas all I can find on ebay is heater blowers for upto 2001 nothing for a 2004 model. Also if the bushes have worn in mine will it be possible to use the 2001 bushes in mine?

    Thanks in advance Neil

I would say check you are getting power to the motor first.Simple things like check the fuse and see if there is voltage at the motor end with a multi meter or even a bulb and a piece of wire will do. It should get higher voltage or the bulb get brighter the higher the speed you switch to. If that is ok then the motor is at fault. Brushes could be the problem or sometimes they sieze up. I cant imagine that they would have changed the motor design that much from model to model as there isnt the need to. The only variation may be if it is from a different manufacturer. My recommendation is email the guy selling them and ask him if they are for your car as he seems to know what he is on about.
