I have a Haynes manual for my Passat 1.8T 1999, it does not show me clearly where the post-catalytic-convertor-rear-Lambda-oxygen-sensor-probe is ?

Could anyone tell me / attacha picture please ? I would like to buy a more comprehensive workshop manual than the Haynes one - but the only real alternative seems to be a 1,00 page one costs about £70 from US web sites.

My Auxillary Electric Cooling Fan makes a loud squealing sound for a minute when I first start the engine (with aircon on ) each moirning. Could I maybe squirt a bit of oil somewhere to quieten it, rather than replace it ?

Any steer would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

Stand on the drivers side and look down to the turbo. Look to the left of the turbo and the sensor is located on the cat which is bolted dirctly to the turbo. As to the high pitched noise when starting with the aircon on, either the belt is slack or the aircon pump is getting tight and worn.

If you could help me it would be much appreciated. May I ask:
    (1)
What are Items that I have annotated "Item 1" and "Item 2" on the attached picture ?
    (2)
I have also labelled the parts that I believe to be the Turbo unit, the catalytic converter and the end of the Exhaust manifold. Am I correct ?
    (3)
My dealer tells me that he has disconnected the "Rear Lambda sensor" pending replacement. However, whilst the Haynes manual for my APU engine (1.8 turbo) tells me that the rear-most (second) Lambda/Oxygen sensor probe is on the " rear top of the catalytic converter" I cannot see either a senor at the rear end of the Cat or even a blank hole where it was. Where has it gone ?

    Thank you
    Kevin

Item 1 and 2 are the coolant inlet and outlet to the turbo. All of your labling is correct. There should be the other sensor to the rear of the cat. If it aint there you have got probs.

Well I have tried to look at the enlarged photo but can't see the labelling
    clearly.
I haven't done much with petrol engine's to be honest but will that be oil feed and return not coolant..

Sorry! One pipe is oil feed and the other is coolant feed. Both oil and coolant return pipes are on the underside of the turbo.

According to ETKA on an AEB\APU there is only one lambda sensor and it is pre-cat.
An ANB engine would have two....
