Today my 57 plate a6 avant had a strange problem. Driving along when something in the dash began crackling and popping very loud. pulled over aftrer a minute or so and switched off. Problem continued for 45 mins with no key in - sounded like a shorting type problem which crackled popped and banged throughout the dash - Called breakdown who took an hour - 5 mins before they came it stopped - car drives ok but strange smell and MMI not working properly. will have to take it in but 6 weeks out of warranty - any ideas?? Just take it to the dealer, they should honour it at 6 weeks. I'd be p!ssed if they didn't!

Was the sound coming from the front speakers? If so, check the amp in the boot on the left hand side - it's common for the pipe to the rear wash wipe to split and shower the amp with water.

    Regards,

    MF.

Thanks for the advice - finally got the car to Audi dealer this week and told them about the possible washer onto Amp issue. Turned out that was the problem, the BOSE amp had blown, needed new one.
Audi payed for it all too so great result!
Just have to watch out for rear washer playing up in the future.
