Hi guys not a good morning . For the first time in a year my passat has let me down. It wont release the parking brake . I have tried all the suggestions on here disconnect battery for 10 mins disconnect battery for 30 mins. Press foot brake for 30 secs the parking brake for 10 secs and still no joy. Come to phone my breakdown for the 40th time and still no answer. Go through the usual menu options and keep getting an engaged tone and keep getting cut off.

Guys please help? Apart from the obvious a new switch.

A taxi will cost over £40 to the nearest train station. The closest bus stop is a good hours walk.

I guess I will wait untill the AA decide to answer the phone

Even at that, the taxi and trains are off here. The only way that i know to get them off is the hard way. Clamp brake flexy, release caliper bolts and use a big prybar to wedge it off. Would not advise driving it though as with one rear brake you will be doing handbrake turns in the dnow but with your foot brake if you know what I mean !

    Total nightmare mate!
Reckon it's both calipers stuck on?

The caliper motor housing is prone to cracking and allowing water/dirt in seizing the motor. Happened to me a few weeks ago.
Either way the calipers can be released if all else fails by undoing the motor bolts and turning the caliper torx socket clockwise by hand till it comes to a stop.
Will get you moving again in nothing else till you get it diagnosed.

All the very best with that mate.

    Chris
