I think I agree with you Patomlin. As mine has auto hold I never press the park button. I live in a village so Im open to all the elements. nowt but fields .

Like I said car has not moved all w end. It was -11 Sunday when me and Mrs Rappy went out. All though all is working I will not be taking the risk. Car is in park with no handbrake applied. Can you you lubricate these motors?

Rigorous testing mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Not so sure. Did you see Martin's write up on the one he stripped down. Hardly german engineering at its best.

How Mrs Rappy laughs. I agree german cars are better engineered than french .

Get in the car turn the key release the hand brake and away you go

We were considering getting rid of hers and keep the sat. Not so sure now .

Now that it's freed itself because things are a bit warmer, I'd guess it was a temperature thing.

Seriously though, as we all know, old-fashioned handbrakes can freeze on, so hats off to VW for sorting that one...not.

You would imagine some kind of heater or a constant lubricant in the motor to stop this kind of thing. Or is that just german engineering

Temperature shouldn't be a problem but if any moisture has got onto the internal gear cluster, temperature will be a problem as it freezes. Don't pour hot water over the motors incase you do have a small crack or the o-ring is leaking. Fingers crossed it might not happen again.

Glad your brakes have freed up mate.
Still getting that warning light on???

I left my motor over the weekend in freezing conditions without the parking brake on and felt as though I did have the handbrake on when attempting to pull off. Suppose it was simply the pads frozen to the disc etc.
Think I may have washed the car before the temp dropped so that sure wouldn't have helped!
Man I wish I had a nice big garage to tuck it in bed overnight at this time of year.

Me to. No hot water it was just an idea. Now they are working I wont be applying the handbrake until I see temp above 0 degrees.

Another cold one tonight -13 .

Don't tell the AA your car is fixed......it might break down tomorrow and if you're still in the 24 hr queue, they will see you first!!!!!

Mine was stuck on the other morning at -8. Its def a temp thing, I am just leaving mine in gear now, started working this morning after about 4 miles as I guess heat from disc thawed everything out. Crap and dangerous design fault in my opinion.
Also mine takes a good 30 minutes to get to normal temperature in this weather and going down a long hill the temperature gauge will fall back from normal. Never had a car do this before, but its done it from new and the garage said its normal, I am sure its contributing to the rubbish fuel consumption in the cold weather.
