in simple terms yes it can, but you would get loads of smoke out the exhaust, how much oil are you losing?

BLB engine its in the garage the garage is guessing a turbo but it has lost alot of oil

what causes the car to lose alot of oil around the intercooler area

If it is a balance shaft problem would you lose a lot of oil on the floor and would the car still run or come to a dead stop.

Reason i ask is my missus was driving the car at the time and what happened was a lose of power like the car was going to stall temp gauge dropped and oil pressure waring on the dashboard appeared ....She drove the car about 150 yards back to the house because she had no where to pull over the car.

Low oil pressure starves the turbo, which then lunches the shaft bearings, which then spew out most of the little oil reaching the turbo.
