    Hi there,

Last week I took my 02 Polo 1.2 into the garage to get the front lower bushes replaced on the suspension.

When I went to collect the car I went onto the Garage forecourt having paid and tried to start the car and it just would not turn over at all.
Having gone back into the garage they couldn't start it and said to leave it with them to look into.

Today they have come back to me to say that the problem is that the timing chain had jumped a tooth and that it would have to go into a engine specialist to look at the damage and that it's going to cost £100's to sort out.

    My questions are:

    1. Could the garage have caused this damage during the initial repair work? They're claiming that they drove the car off the ramp and parked it up fine and that therefore it's not their problem.

    2. Anyone have much experience in terms of sorting out liability in cases like this? From my perspective I took a car in that hadn't had any history of engine trouble or not starting and I get back a car with potentially serious engine damage.

I don't want to bad mouth or fall out with the garage, as I've used them for years for MOT, servicing, etc and they seem like decent people, but it looks like it's going to cost a hell of a lot to get sorted something that wasn't a problem before it went into the garage.

    Any advice very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Most likely some young lad done a standing start drag race up the ramp or round the car park with your little car then when the engine stopped they just parked-it up like nothing happened ! TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER AND GET THEM TO FIX THE CAR as it happened in their courtyard so they should be covered by the insurance...

That is a ridiculous accusation to make about another garage, you know as well as I do how common these are for failing.

Agree with Crasher, as far as the guy saying about its covered under their insurance… WISE UP. Its one of those things matey and its your car, not the garages so its your bad luck, not theirs
