    Hi guys,

i have been getting 27 mpg showing on the display when doing 80-90 mph on the motor way, is this sort of figure to be expected or is there somethin wrong with the car

    any advice is appreciated.

    thanks

Depends whether your right foot is just resting on the loud pedal, part way down or flat on the floor & the car climbing a hill or not. The instant MPG computer readout is just that - instant at that point in time.

By way of comparrision my 120,000 mile A6 1.9TDI 130 (160 with tuning box) is currently showing an average of 55mpg. When crusing at 70mph on a flat road the instant readout shows 70-80mpg. When slowing down on overrun in gear 200mpg+ or no consumption whatso ever! However, as soon as you accelerate the read out plummets to 15-20mpg.
As a result I never leave the instant mpg readout on - it'll do your head in & take your eyes off the road. The average mpg is the true test and that is all down to your driving style & what state the engine is in. The in car mpg computer is not that accurate anyway. The only real way to test the consumption is to brim the tank, take the mileage, run it for a few days, brim the tank again, note the fuel used, record the mileage again & do the calculations.
