    Hi Colin,
Did you notice the boot jamming shut very soon after you finally got it shut or some time after???

Have you tried reclined the rear seats and pulling the emergancy release inside the boot?

If you go in the boot after reclining the seats it is directly on top.
In other words when you opened your boot normally you would see it directly in front of you with the boot opened.
Going by the look of mine it might be luminois. It's just a manual lever you pull so you can't kidnap someone and lock them in the boot.
If after a look you still can't see it let me know and I'll take a pic of mine but you should see it no bother and pretty certain it'll open your boot.

Just had a brain flash and had a quick look at my owners manual.
Booklet 3.2 p87 "Manual release of the boot lid"
Shows you a picture there of it's location.

Trust you, still always best to be prepared incase a squirel creeps up on you while hoovering the boot and pushes you in and slams the lid down for fun innit?

did they remove this 'hostage release' handle in later models? I know the first lot of passats had them, but is it still in the newer passats?
