Hi all, I'm looking (like most people in Scotland right now!) at getting a set of winter tyres. Currently have 225 / 45 /17" for summer use, and looking at 205/215 / 55 / 16 - basically to give a bit more cushion and a lower surface contact which (I believe ?!?) should give better traction in snow / ice. What I'm concerned about is clearance for the brake calipers ... there's about an inch of clearance with the 17" alloys, so dropping down to 16" would give only c. 1/2" clearance - is there a minimum recommended distance between caliper and rim - seems tight to me ...

Related point - I'm looking at Toyo Snowprox 952's - have heard good things about them but am struggling to find "official" reviews anywhere ...

It's a 2008 A3 Quattro Sport 2.0 Tdi (170) if that helps anyone ...

Would be very grateful for any advice. Safe driving all.
