    Does anyone know where the outside temperature sensor is? I have an inaccurate outside temp reading on the dash and on the climate control, ive changed the sensor behind the front bumper nearside but its still teh same wrong reading, ive now removed that sensor all together and still getting inaccurate readings so there must be another outside temp sensor hiding somewhere??

    The sensor you've replaced is the outside temp sensor as far as I'm aware.

    Have you had the car scanned for fault codes?

    Yes have scanned it and got 00779 - Outside Air Temp Sensor (G17). I thought the changing that outside sensor would cure it but with replacement sensor or no sensor connected at all i still get the same inaccurate outside temperature reading!

    I presume you've cleared the fault and rescanned?

    The error code won't clear, as soon as I clear it, it returns.

    Which of the following is the error;

    00779 - Outside Air Temperature Sensor (G17): Open or Short to Plus

    or

    00779 - Outside Air Temperature Sensor (G17): Short to Ground

    The latter indicates a broken sensor and would be resolved by fitting a new one (which you've done), the former indicates a fault in the wiring between the sensor and the cluster/climatronic

    The Ross-Tech Wiki suggests checking measuring blocks for the sensor.

    In a Passat it's group 006 and the values are, Calculated Temp, Fresh Air Duct Temp (G89), Outside Air Temp (G17) and Sunlight Photo Sensor (G107)

    Not sure if it's the same for the MKIV (I presume it is).

    My 00779 was the open or short to plus. Not the simple fix i hoped for. Will look at the wiring and measuring block values next.
    Cheers for your feedback..
