    Hi,

I've had a problem with my rear brakes ever since it’s gotten really cold they have locked/frozen twice now in the morning. First time I rocked the car and they release themselves but this morning there was no budging the rear wheel on the drivers side. My road is totally frozen so there is very little traction.

    Any ideas?

I would say you've got a frozen hand brake cable(s)or the servo is freezing up, but the fronts usually stick when that happens, try using a heat gun or the kettle to warm them gently see if that free's them. It'll maybe get you going for now but they'll re-freeze again.

I suspect water is freezing between components causing the handbrake to remain engaged. This could either be caused by the pad sticking to the disc, in which case this is little you can do. If you don't park on a slope try engaging the handbrake with less force.

Or it could be the caliper which is sticking. You could have the caliper stripped, cleaned and greased (which should be done at a pad change) which alleviate the sticking, or get busy with the hair drier on those cold mornings

Don't use the handbrake in extreme cold weather. It's a known problem with most handbrakes. Moisture on the pads and the disks freeze together. Ask any one on a scandanvian auto forum.

X 2. If its gonna be less than -3c, there's a risk of the
    handbrake freezing.
