    Hi,

I hava an 06 1.9 TDI S with 67k on it. When doing urban driving the clutch is OK - however, over the past week I have noticed that after a long drive (ie Motorway) it had started to feel a bit slack but then would be ok a second later.

However, last night after 30 miles on the M5 I came off at a junction, pressed the clutch pedal and it stayed down. I was unable to select any gear. I phoned the RAC

After about 10 minutes I tried lifting the pedal with my foot and it stayed up!!

The RAC was as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I carried on my journey via A roads and had no further problems (except for the snow - had to get the chains out)

As I said earlier - only happens after a long drive - almost like it looses pressure.

Only looking for advice as I don't want to be ripped off - unless it is an easy fix!!

    Cheers

    Bob

This can be a faulty pedal mounting, faulty clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder, faulty release bearing carrier or clutch pressure plate/friction plate about to fail.
Get down and have a good push and pull on the clutch pedal to feel for any odd movement.
Next get a vcds read for the clutch pedal switch (built into the master cylinder)
After that it is gearbox off to investigate.

Sounds like the master or slave cylinder is about to go.
I had them both go on my Alhambra 1.9 diesel.

Posted at same time - wasn't ignoring you!!

I have got it booked in for Tuesday with centralvwaudi on Tuesday in Ellesmere port.

Dont trust the local VW Dealers as far as I can throw them.

I did use to post here under lawrenso but cant remember password or email account to get password reset.

Was posting about VW selling ex hire cars but saying they were VW fleet cars!!
    (as this car was)

    Thanks

The VCDS check is to see if the clutch position switch built into the master cylinder has reported an error. This may not produce a fault code.

Great to hear it - not had that much problems with mine - just the occaisional stall in low gear which they could never find- just thought I was buying one thing for a good price but actually getting another that in light of that information was not that good a deal.

    Cheers

    [QUOTE=discobob;585988]Hi,

As I said earlier - only happens after a long drive - almost like it looses pressure.

I too have a AD 06 reg 1.9 but twice the milage of yours and had the same problems as you discribed after a long motorway run the clutch bitting point is to the floor but pump it a few time`s it would be o.k..
I too had the AA out but was told the clutch might be going as high milage..He did check the brake fluid as this also feeds the clutch master cylinder but no leaks found..
Booked the car at my local dealer to be told new clutch required..
New clutch fitted at a cost of £709 and D.M.F was fine on inspection..(did say if dmf needs changing change but not required..few) (also there are two types of clutch`s and one is more than the other and they dont know till they drop the box but luckly mine was the cheaper type)
    BUT..
It was better but not 100% but as time when by (3 months and 15,000 miles later) the clutch lever got worse...and had a rumble noise from the box on tick over (sounded like release bearing packing in)
so back in again to be told D.M.F failing..and How much...
but fair do`s to Vw dealer they did a lower rate to replace dmf at a cost of £509.but again checking my itemised bill they also replaced the master cylinder and didnt charge me this....so I would have this replaced first considering yours is half the milage and cost effective... as you can see it can get exspensive...so to date it is great with an extra 10,000 miles so far with no problems..
    cheers Ady..
