You could try rebooting your computer by disconnecting the battery for 5 mins.

Are you sure you just haven't turned that feature off ?. The reason I say that is because my earlier Passat had a fixed menu, but my new one has a page where you choose which options you want see on the MFD. I don't know which model year this changed, my first B6 was a 2005 Sport, my new one is 2010 Highline Plus, so I don't know where your 2008 model stands.

Are you sure you just haven't turned that feature of?

Suppose someone does switch it off, accidentally, how can one put it back on by themselves?

    Jake,
    Sorry to hear your trouble.
You would not believe the grief that I had trying to get the CONVENIECE menu back on my MFD. It disappeared 12 months ago while the car was in warranty.I went to one service agent to get it sorted but to no avail. They put it on their diagnostic equipment which in turn communicated (or so they said) with the main computer in Germany.
I was about to bring to another VW agent for them to have a look, and hey presto, it returned by itself.
Three months ago, my "coming home" and "leaving home" lights stopped working. So off I went to the second VW agent to get this resolved. They replaced the "Convenience" module (not sure they did).Having got the car back, I looked at the MFD and convenience had disappeared again. When I went back to the service agent about this, he put it on the diagnostics and he couldn't find anything wrong. He was treating me like I was a nutter and didn't believe it ever existed. Luckily I had taken a photo of the MFD with convenience on the display. He sais to leave it with him and he would investigate. 2 weeks later I had to contact him as he hadn't come back to me. I eventually had to contact VW Ireland by e-mail (phone calls had no effect) to get it sorted out.
They instructed the agent to replace the convenience module. My wife brought the car to the agent, left the car there with her key only. This seems to have cured the problem.
However my key would not start the car or open the doors. The car and both sets of keys had to be brought in to be programmed. This is why I dont believe that they replaced the convenience module previously as they only got one key on that occasion also.
Sorry for the rant but I tried to research this on this forum previously to no avail.
I don't know what it will cost to get it fixed, mine was done under warranty.
So you are not alone or mad. Hope this helps.

I had a problem which meant the MFD had to be changed and both keys needed reprogramming, so you were definitely right.

thanks for all the comments guys, the effort that djah has had to go to to have this problem resolved is unbelievable. Not really sure whether just to leave it as it is not really causing me any real problem at the moment. anyway thanks again.

I was thinking of this menu, where you choose what you want the MFD to display, not the convienenance menu.
