    hi new to this , hope someone can help, Just bought 2002 golf gt tdi [130] its showing half full on gauge but just ran out of fuel, any ideas ?? car is under warrenty but i need to know for future ref

    sounds like the tank sender unit in the fuel tank

    have replaced a few if you know your way around cars you can test it under the back seat on the drivers side the a black cover with 3 philps screws on it under this is the supply pump and gauge you can diconnect the plug and turn on the ignition and see if the needle moves if it stills goes to half way proplem might be in the dash insert if it stays a 0 it a prety safe bet that the sender unit is at fault and just depending on your skill you could remove the unit and move the float up and and check the resistance as far as i recall its just over 2 omhs when full and it should go down smothly as the float goes down but as you said its under wty let them worry about it

    cheers mate its going to dealers tuesday only had it 1 day so not happy not happy at all, i have also noticed a slight miss on engine while on tick over very slight but you can feel it,could this be the crap out of the tank?. its done 34000 miles and they have just replaced belt with it being over 4 yrs old

    had car in dealers today and they said sender unit is ok, but they had to recalibrate tank or something like that, anyone heard of this before?? and they tried to charge me for this but said if they replaced sender unit it would be covered by warrenty,
