    Evening all

I have checked the wifes car over getting ready for the winter (late i know!) and the oil inside the filler cap and inside the entrance was a grey and black thick, slimy mixture.
    .
I think this is oil sludge, is that correct? If so, can it be recitified by simply changing the oil and filter? If so, great, wheres the oil filter? I've not yet looked..
    .
Car is a 2002 VW Polo 1.4 TDI SE.

Thanks for that Towcestervag. I checked when last serviced and the oil was changed 7000 miles ago.
Oil, filter, sump plug all changed, took ages as the plug had been done up by superman and i didn't have a 36mm spanner/wrench bit so that was an added journey. But all done, mind you i think i am still defrosting!
