Well my B6 is approaching 3 years old and is due to go back to the lease company at the end of Feb.

I have now been told to choose the next one.

I am currently lean towards the following car.

2.0 TDI (140) Manual (sick of dsg now) NEW Passat SE in Island Grey, keeping the standard issue 5 spoke wheels (look like the old sport wheels off of the B6) i could also get this as the sport model also.

I was looking towards either a 170 sport or the lovely 2.0 TFSI but the tax bill will be massive. The 140 now has blue motion tech and the tax bill should be quite a bit less that my current one.

I think i like the look of the new passat, but cannot see one in the flesh until its too late!!!

It will be nice to be one of the first in the new passat though.

Need to make my mind up by end of next week as the order needs to go in very soon.

    Decisions Decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry about it, just order it, if you need clues, just resize the front of the new Alhambra, side on things are much the same, and it's got Yankee type large rear lights, anyway you'll have the Kudos of having the latest thing, should get the curtains going.

Our VW dealer has just had an open day for the new Passat. I don't like the front, and some of it looks like change for the sake of change. The one I looked at has two reversing lights!

However, the CR engine in it is much quieter. It was started up in a closed showroom with a noise more like a rumble, and it makes my PD engine sound even more like a tractor.

    Fingers,
Can I ask you why you are sick of the DSG? I was interested in getting one, but I would like to hear the pros and cons beforehand.
    Thanks.

Have you driven the DSG with the CR engine? It certainly seems a much happier combination than the DSG on a PD.

The CR diesels and TSi petrols seem to have been developed with DSG in mind.

Dont get me wrong the DSG box is completely great, i would have another.

Mine has had its issues (which you can check out on here) its had two new mechadoodoo units and wait for it................... a new box under warranty. For the well known issues, jerky, stalling, lack of link between pedal and what its actually doing ie GAS.......BOOM etc etc etc. All sorted without issue over 60K miles.

Apart from the issues it has been spot on, and is currently running like a dream, in fact keep your eyes open for it at the end of Feb in an auction in Manchester. It will be a great buy, new box 500 miles ago, serviced by VW all the time, not a scratch on it. Someone is going to be well chuffed.

Now the bad bit...........SNOW - DSG = doesn't snow go. AT ALL FULL STOP. any incline and its goosed, quite emarrassing to get over taken by a double decker bus cause you are getting no where fast. In fact i have just managed to get it back on the road, its been crippled for the last two days by SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

The last three cars have all been manuals and then decided to try a DSG, love it but want another manual this time, i may get another in three years when the next one goes back.

I have not driven a CR DSG and would expect it to be a bit better suited to DSG as there isn't the blast in power when the turbo kicks in, are they are a lot smoother through the whole rev range in CR form?

I have now decided its the 2.0 (140) TDI Manual SE, Island Grey, Black Interior. Well until i get a wobble again and start window shopping again. The snow has made me look at Tiguans now.......... I prefered it when the only question i got at car change time was.... What Colour Do You Want? and then the surprise when delivery arrived to see what it was. You should have seen the look on my face in 2003 when an Audi A2 (light met blue, tdi sport with all the trimmings) turned up and the guy asked for PHIL, it was really nice inside it just wobbled when the wipers were on!! and looked like a 'Bread Van' with windows!

If a German car won't go in the snow there has to be something seriously wrong. What did it do? Was it the ESP that stopped it? I am also up for replacement in February and was thinking about getting DSG.

They are not bad as long as you keep them moving, inclines at slow speed are the worst. It is the esp that stops it first, cuts power gradually until it stops then it will not get going again.

ESP off is basically rubbish as it will not allow change up into second until actually moving. So the engine is putting 320 torques to the front wheels in first gear and will not change up. You just end up screaming it in first.

Mine is 100 times better since the box was changed and Mechadoodoo until replaced. brand new tires this year instead of half worn. BUT IT IS STILL BAD...... VERY VERY BAD.

For this 2 weeks a year we have to put up with this snow it doesnt bother me that much and i have managed to get around this year (only one day off the road) once you learn how it behaves and what makes it throw the toys out of the pram you learn where it will NOT go and you stay clear.

Search DSG SNOW on google and my thread on how is your DSG in the snow from last year is the no 1 hit.

If you have not had one (DSG) my advice would be. Go non take the plunge, get one you will not be disappointed. just make sure its got paddles. I have actually looking back loved my DSG, motorway traffic is a breeze, nice and smooth 90% of the time.

The left side of my body is just bored, i spend most of the time driving it with right foot and right hand only. I got the DSG due to left knee pain stuck in traffic and having to constantly dip the clutch. It now give me grief cause it is always still on those very uncomfortable SE seats. So it didnt stop that.

You just have to remember it is the middle ground between manual and slush box auto. In all honestly its a manual with metal mickey inside pushing the buttons.

I drove a manual GTD the other day and enjoyed having full control over what gear we are in my DSG is always say ooops sorry wrong gear again, BANG theres the right one.

I JUST FANCY A CHANGE AND A CHANGE I WILL HAVE

Just awaiting prices back now on two cars and a wild card.

    1 - 2.0TDI SE Island Grey (MANUAL)

    2 - 2.0TDI Sport Island Grey (Manual)

    3 - Tiguan Sport 2.0 TDI

It seems that for lease purposes the sport might work out better due to residual value at end of lease. So my gut feeling is SPORT it will be.

Anyone with an Island Grey car, does it stay clean looking. I have a deep black one at the moment and you only have to look at it funny and its dirty.
