Hi all, i've got a bulb out on my dashboard. Are they easy to replace and do I need any specific tools?

I've managed to do the brake light myself before.

If it's possible to do yourself, could someone give me a little help getting started becuase I can't see a way in at present.

    Thanks

P.S. I've just been told I have a hair line crack in the oil filter housing but this is only after it went in for a service???? could this be damage caused during the service? I'd like to hear your thoughts on whether I could go back with the problem

If the light is out in the instrument cluster, these are not replaceable by normal means and you will have to replace the cluster or send it away for repair, unless you are very skilled at electronic repairs. Remember if the cluster is removed the car is not drivable and if it is replaced it has to be coded into the car. I have never known an oil filter housing to crack, is it leaking?

Or does he mean the dash is giving a warning that one of the Car's bulbs has blown?

A bit of clarity from the OP might help here.......

Have you checked all the lights/indicators etc etc?

It'll be hard to know how to help unless we know what bulb you're talking about!!

Hi - The buld for the petrol indicator isn't coming on so has presumably blown.

Regarding the oil - yes it is leaking. I had a service a few weeks ago, and the car has since been back in to Audi. They have told me their is a crack ???

    Thanks

Don't think that's a bulb - it's a display generated by the driver information system.

Sounds like a sensor in the tank has packed up and needs replacing.

Much cheaper than replacing the instrument cluster.

It depends on if you have the Midline or Highline panel, you have not told us what your car is apart from it being in the 8P section. The K16 low fuel warning lamp needs testing using diagnostic equipment in output tests to see if it works, if it does not then the panel is faulty, if it does there is something else wrong which may or may not involve replacing the panel. I quote VAG’s own manual

    Note

All warning lamps in instrument cluster are fitted with light-emitting diodes. The instrument cluster must be renewed in the event of warning lamp failure.”

If the oil is leaking from a crack in the plastic filter top this is easy and cheap to replace but I would need to know what the year and engine code is to help you further.
