    Hi all, just joined recently.
I have a problem with my 03 A6 tdi 130 (AWX). The engine surges when changing gear. i.e. driving at 2000 rpm....clutch and release accelerator....the engine surges to 3000 rpm before dropping back. Or sitting at idle if I rev the car to 2000 rpm and release the pedal the engine will continue to rev up to 3000 -> 3500 rpm before dropping back. When in this condition the engine idles at approx 1200 rpm as opposed to 850. This problem is intermittent and doesn't appear to happen when cold. It could last all day or 10 minutes??
I recently changed the EGR to no avail. I also disconnected the MAF when in this condition but makes no difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the thottle body could be sticking. It will need cleaning and then resetting with VAG-Com.

    on the tdi?

Don't think so. If the anti-shudder flap in the egr valve was sticking it wouldn't start.

Possible MAP sensor, turbo VNT sticking or even boost leak.

Any other symptoms, ie smoke, lack of power or drop in mpg.

You really need a fault scan with a vagcom device.

Thanks a mil for your input.........
No smoke since I changed the EGR, no lack of power and avg low 40's mpg which I think is pretty good.
    Thanks again.

Ah didn't notice the TDI bit, I had had a couple of glasses of wine when I answered that. Disregard my last, carry on!

Yes to a fault scan though, first thing to do.
