    Hi

I want to know if remapping, chipping my 130 TDi Passat will benefit me?

What's best, remapping or chipping it? Is it the same thing??? I hear you can either remap the ECU or get a box fitted?

Do this damage the engine over time or will it make it run more efficiently.

    Cheers

I have just arranged to have mine re mapped on the 18/04/2006. Cost is going to be £179. You will benefit more from a remap as this will increase the fuelling and the boost pressure, a tuning box will only modify the injector signal or fuel pressure. Do not be tempted to fit any analogue tuning mechanisms as these will give lumpy idle and incorrect computer readings. You can expect to get approx 30-35 hp and 40-50 lbft increases from a remap. If you are interested in a remap make sure your car is running fine before having this carried out

Hi there. I have a 115PD which I have tried two tuning boxes on and been disappointed, BUT I have been told that my 2000 car still runs on old technology and therefore does not take so well to a plug and play set up. Yours, however, might. Try dieseltuninguk.com for boxes by Powerklick and Vector, at just under £300. These are plug and play boxes that you fit yourself(about 40min's on a Passat).

A re-map is done by a specialist who will basically plug his laptop in to the service port and upload, and download a new code to your cars ECU. So not a tangible product like the box, but believed by many to be the best solution for your vehicle, especially if this is combined with a rolling road test to guage exactly what your engine is doing.
I had a remap by REVO on a petrol car and it was awesome, but cost nearly £500.
Glynnd, where are you geting a remap for that price???? Let me know, cos I will gladly use a tank of fuel to get to them. That's really cheap

Had to postpone it to next month as i have had to replace the clutch and fly wheel on the passat at a cost of £634.50 all in. My car is a diesel and when I finally get it done i will post my findings, I cant believe I have had to pay more money for repairs as I have had my car only 6 months and have already got receipts for £1350. I suppose it a good job I only paid £6500 for an 03 plate tdi se 130 that had done 83k when i got it! Ps remap is to be carried out by sp tuning in Coventry.
