Been using a Linksys wireless router since January with my laptop which has only a few times not wanted to work, a quick re-set & all was ok again. However, went out to the car the other night after getting my vag-com cable & whilst I was there made use of someone elses unsecured network to log onto the net as my router was out of range. Naughty I know but i'll repent another day! Ever since then I havent been able to log onto my home network whatever I do, I keep getting "limited or no connectivity" show up. Tried the usual re-set the router options, the network key the laptop is using to access the router is correct....................im a little lost & virging on uninstalling the router & re-installing from scratch. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

have you tried removing the unsecured network form your list of available wireless networks. Also try going into network connections, properties, LAN settings and ensuring that it is set to obtain network ip automatcally. Try entering the network key in again

follow this if unsure. open network connections. right click over wireless connection, click properties. scroll down to tcp/ip and click once. then properties. select obtain ip automatically. ok. then wirelessnetwork tab and remove the network you "borrowed" should be ok!!

Yeah, i've removed all other networks from the prefered networks list apart from my network & its set to automatic, and i've manually re-entered the key code. Anything else I can try?

Hope this helps - may help to diagnose your problems

    Couple stages to follow:

    • Shut down router
    • Turn off all machine with wireless access to your router.
    • Start up Router - wait until it has fully synched with your dsl/cable connection
    • Turn on pc/mac/device
    • The following is for pc only (mac's dont have these problems - normally))
    • Go to run and type CMD
    • Type in the following: ipconfig /all ( note the space between the end od ipconfig and the slash)

You should get a set of results returned e.g.

If your router address is something like http://192.168.0.1

Then the IP address in the results should look very similar i.e. 192.168.0.2

Sometimes when your routing table on your pc gets confused it returns an ip address that looks something like 192.168.131.254 (its a pain in the **** when something like this happens sometimes fixing itself)

As mentioned in the thread previously look at your network properties and ensure DHCP is enabled if not then check it and restart your machine.

Then run though the RUN then IPCONFIG

This link is for windows 7 but is common across all windows platforms:

    http://www.sevenforums.com/virtualiz...-wrong-ip.html

There are a few other links on this page that may help

The way i resolved it was to manually input (static/fixed IP) - from the router settings you will need the following:

    • IP Address of router i nyour case the IP address for the router
    • Then the DNS settings for your DSL/Cable connection (there is normally two lots)
    • You will sometimes be asked for the Subnet typically its like this 255.255.255.0
    • Then create a static IP address: eg. 192.168.0.2

The above is for wireless issues.

    Direct connection to your router
Alternatively try plugging in your machine directly to the router/modem with a network if you still get no connection you might want too look at your router/modem - it may need a firmware update - all setting reset to default or you may have a corrupted bios on your router.

if you get fed with that come round to mine and help me paint the Decking or buy a Mac- Blimey its HOT out
"Do you hear that? Its the sound of Inevitability!"
