Dilemma: Passat 4motion or A4 Quattro

Hi all.

I offer my advance apologies should I be raising this query in the wrong forum - something I have done in the past.

I am in a serious dilemma. I have a choice of 2 motors to go for and need help in selection - any help is most appreciated.

1) VW Passat 2.0 TDI 4Motion (2007)
2) Audi A4 2.0 TDI Quattro (2007)

Currently, my choice needle is smack bang in the middle. Let's see how you guys can influence it. (and why)

Size would be an issue for me, dont forget that the Passat is basically an A6. My estate often sits next to an A6 at work and when you look at them side by side they are teh same size and a lot of the body lines are the same.

The A4 is a lot smaller.

I am coming from a BMW 3 Series, E46:
1. The Passat Estate is over 30cm longer, whereas
2. The Audi Saloon is over 11cm longer.

I must admit I am not an 'estate' man but have been stuck in this issue for a while now.

I want the Quattro, but I feel I might be throwing away money when I could get almost the same performance from a 4motion (i.e. the Passat Estate) which is much cheaper.
I've also grown into using parking sensors, something which the Quattro lacks but the 4motion does have.

I am stuck, so let's see what info and expert comparison you guys can provide for me.
