I looked under the bonnet of an A4 today and noticed that there was a lot of "dirt" where the wheel arches were. It seemed to be like the road muck had come up off the wheels and somehow found its way onto the engine side of the wheels arches. This had dried and was quite powdery, but also quite thick.

Is this a common thing with the A4 ?

The top of my engine is spotless!! I was really surprised as it hasn't been touched in 10K miles. there is a little bit of dirt about the lower bits of the engine but not much. Mind you, it's such a big engine there isn't much room for anything else I hate filling the washer bottle though as the plastic cap thing, won't stay open

Hi, a kittke tip - when you open the filler cap, spin it around and tuck it under a fold in the wing, this way it stays open and you can spin it back around again when done

Ah, Thank you. I tried spinning it a little bit, but didn't think it would tuck under anything. Will try that next time

Next Time you are bored, jack your car up and remove the front wheel! This will One! stop your alloys sticking to the hub through a process known as "Dis-similar metal corossion", Two! teach you how to use your AUDI wheel change kit, BUT most pertinant to this thread, Three!you will see how bad the inner-wing protection on your vehicle really is!!!!, There are cliffs and valleys (that Wales would be proud off!) as well as holes to accumulate and spread dirt!

    Cheers for the info.

Although I am hoping the dealer will have it spotless when I pick it up. However, I aint holding my breath. Some aspects of the "Audi Experience" have been just shocking. It seems that they want to do the least amount of work/effort to maximise their used car profit... Grrrrrrrr

Thing is Audi are NOT Beginners in the car industry, by a long shot!! They MUST know? what they are doing (even though in a perfect world it is not ideal), I would say the mechanicals for me were a less worry than the (long term) potential electric probs! Just my tuppence worth!

    Good luck with your car.
