I thought I would share a little find I made on Ebay. This chap is selling some ratty old Toughbooks for £52.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOUGHBOOK-CF-M...62911302847669

They are pretty ratty looking but work fine, mine was delivered yesterday and its great, bit of a clean up required but functions fine. It looks like they have been used for diagnostics in a working garage as the one I bought even had a copy of Autodata CD3 on it! Bonus Touchscreen as well. They are very small so perfect for use in the garage/car.

They aren't very powerful but have more than enough spec to run VCDS. Just need to get my licence moved from my old laptop.

    Cheers

I got one but it won't run VCDS pro. Contacted Ross-tech, they say processor is too slow. Have you had yours working yet. If it works with vcds lite I may offer it on here to someone wanting to only run vcds lite.

Yes mine works with VCDS Lite. I checked the requirements on the Ross Tech website and it meets them.

They say a minimum of a 500Mhz processor, those came with 700Mhz. It certainly has enough RAM too. Not sure why they are saying it isn't supported when their website says it is.

The full version of VCDS is recommended to run on a 1GHZ processor when running XP. Vista or "7". If you are running an older operating system, you might get it to run on a 500mHz processor. Performance will be slow and could be problematic.

VCDS-Lite will run on a 500mHz processor but is limited to older vehicles.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

If you are interested you can have the toughbook for £60 inc post to you. That's what I paid for it. VCDS pro does run but not smoothly. Seems VCDS lite will run fine.
