Aux Heater Fumes Sharan 2005 1.9 tdi 130

I see there are various threads on here about Aux Heater problems on Sharan's and Touran's.
My 2005 1.9 TDI (130) Sharan is now suffering from a smell of fumes inside the cabin when the vehicle has ben left stationary, i assume it to be coming from the Aux Heater, i do not get the plumes of white smoke that other people are getting but do get the fumes of what appears to be Diesel.

This often clears once the car has been driven with blowers open and on.
I don't appear to be getting the Turbine noise that i used to get after the engine is turned off either. Is this a Glow Plug fault or something more serious, if i just have the heater disconnected will it stop the Diesel fumes entering the vehicle, the Heater exhaust does not appear to be getting hot?

get a diag test done on aux heater to help pin point fault

Looks like i will need to, but don't want to spend too much money as i am selling it , but need to sell it private as Ford dealer only offered me £5k for it part ex against a Modeo. 5 years old 56K on clock
It fired up first thing this morning (-1C) working as it should and got very hot to touch, no excessive smoke really, Then when i started the car again 30 mins later it didn't fire up , but the smell is much worse than normal.
