I have been considering winter wheels and tyres for my A6 avant s line. Has anyone else tried a winter wheel tyre combo?

Interested to know what size wheels and tyres other forum members have used? I currently have the standard 18" 5 spoke alloys. Could I for example get 16" wheels, with a meaty sidewall? I have driven a lot across Europe and it's a legal requirement to have winter and summer tyres at the appropriate times of year. I don't want to 'suffer' another slippery winter 'if' we get snow again!

    Your help is greatly appreciated....

    Neil

I have winter tyres on my A6 Avant (not S Line). Owners handbook indicates appropriate tyres sizes so in my case I changed the 225/50/17 "summer" combo to 205/60/16 (or summat like that). Not sure how this would work in relation to S Line suspension confuguration what with it being lower I believe. Problems not so much with tyre but if you are likely to fit a snow chain. Narrower profile is also better for traction.

But yes I understand that you can change the tyre/wheel ratios as long as the overall tyre diameter remains the same, but there are also wheel offset measurements to consider too.

In my case I fitted "higher" profile tyres as recommended and the advantage of this was, that I managed to get a set of new 16" alloys for £240 delivered and the tyres were significantly cheaper at £105 a corner, but this was last winter.

    Hope this helps.
