Airbag and service light after cleaning

Spent a good hour hoovering the inside of the car today only to move it and have the airbag warning light come on and service in 500mls display as well.

Had a quick look at the connectors under the seats but they are both secure.

Not too worried about the service light as I can get it reset by a mate but how do you go about the airbag?

Is it a dealer job?

If you are sure you haven't accidentally disconnected the wires under the seat, nor the light under the stereo, I would have the dealer or specialist scan the system. Airbag faults can be cleared with VCDS but it would also tell you where the fault occured. I would ask them to clear the fault (they will definitely try to blame an expensive component) then see if it occurs again. May just be a one off.

Just for your info, I had the light come on because the wires under the passenger seat became disconnected. The dealer said I had to replace the whole passenger airbag assembly, £500 approx. The independent reconnected the wires, reset the system and all is well a year later. Just be aware!

You only have to move the connectors a fraction. If the control module "sees" a difference in resistance when you switch on, the air bag light will come on. If you know someone with VCDS they can pin point the fault area for you. Usually all you need to do is pull a connector apart and push it together again to ensure a clean connection. Then reset the light again.
Make sure ignition is off when you fiddle with the connectors.

Good news is the warning lights have been cleared at first attempt, fault was reading as near side ignitor or something similar.

Probably the connector under the passenger seat. With luck it won't come back on.
