    hi guys

im looking into purchasing a B7 3.0 tdi avant quattro with the auto/tiptronic box, just wondered if anybody has had any experience with the auto over a manual. I currently drive a 2006 R32 with the dsg box, which is a fantastic gearbox, but dont know how the audi tiptronic unit compares ? Are the gearchanges as fast as the dsg box or are they quite slow ? Is the manual a better drive or should I go for the auto ???

any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

I have an A4 Avant 3.0TDI Auto (2006) remapped, it is a brilliant V6 engine with fantastic torque and I've not found any problem with the auto or the tiptronic. Having said that I rarely, if ever, use the tiptronic as the auto box is very quick to change and is smooth in operation. I sometimes laugh when I hear the manuals are better because they are quicker, all I can say is while somebody is fiddling with a gearstick and clutch they are always in my rear view mirror.

I agree. I have the 233bhp 3.0TDi Quattro with tiptronic, and it is just gorgeous. Bullet-proof, too.

Whilst it is a brilliant gearbox, i would not say it was bullet proof.

Reason being, i have just had mine replaced after slipping gear changes and banging when selecting D or R on occasion.

Trouble is, Audi never told me what the problems were, only that there were tech readings they were not happy with.

All done under AAW, thank god.
