Hello everyone,

I'm new to the site so bear with me if I put posts in the wrong place.

I've had my 1996 Audi A4 B5 for about 2 years now. Great drive and most other cars this old would have rusted to dust by now. Managed to do some simple mechanical repairs such as changing front suspension lower arms, front ABS sensors etc.

Have had ongoing problem with immobiliser and engine cuts out after about 2 seconds. Currently overcoming this by disconnect / reconnect battery earth lead which extinguishes immobiliser light and allows me to start. After switching ignition off and back on fault reappears and battery dis/reconnect is needed to start again.

Thinking key reader coil on ignition barrel is the probable cause but why does it allow me to start every first time after the battery disconnect?

As this area is for introductions I'll copy the problem to the A4 B5 forum and live in hope that some of you very clever techies can help me understand and solve it.

Thanks
Al
