I am thinking about removing the cat from my 99 plate 1.9TDi 110 to help the engine breathe more freely, improving performance hopefully. Now the question is does the engine need the cat to run correctly (backpressure), or will it cope just fine without it. I have had re-map done which made a huge difference but am now looking to gain that bit more, plus maybe a sportier exhaust note without the cat.
    Advice always welcome.
    Cheers
    Tom

Just cut open the cat , remove the things inside then get them welded back again ! A diesel engine in good health will pass the MOT without the cat. The turbocharger does make the exhaust verry quiet so removing the back box is common procedure in the states and it will run with no problems whatsoever !

I have an old powerflow decat pipe if you want it. Would only want enough for it to cover p&p, say £5 or £6 - should be perfect bore to replace the section left by the cat. PM me if you want it. Would just need to cut out the cat then and attach this pipe in (has flanged end with bolts at one end, could use a bracket to attach other one, using exhaust paste to seal (or weld it on))
